Stew thanks for this quick look at hope. Hope, to me, is all that's left when you've used up all your ammo and the enemy is still coming at you.

I've discovered, thru my son's alcohol recovery, another term - skeptomism. believing in a bright future for him while keeping a slightly jaundiced eye on current events.

Skeptomism is a keeper. Especially these days. Thanks for your reflection on hope. Here’s to better days all around.

Thank you for sharing "skeptomism." If I may, I'm going to tuck it in my lexicon next to "flawsome."

I think of myself as English on my mother's side and Scottish on my father's. But there's little data to back that up. Just the stories handed down about who came from where, and the lore of a particular plaid and accompanying crest. Still, I resonate with your Irish qualified hope. A Substack tagline I should promote more often here: "Chicken Scratch is for realistic optimists, disappointed idealists and anyone looking to find a way back to goodness."

As with so many things, I ride a teeter-totter with hope. It might keep us from facing the music soon enough, or it might be what inspires us to take action. I can almost hear Nancy's voice in my head!
